Phew.

It’s easy to think it’s the only illness in the world now. But it’s not. As significant and widespread as the impact of the C-word has been, it hasn’t meant other diseases have stopped. People still have, and are still getting diagnosed with, life-threatening illness, including the other C-word, cancer.

The work of healthcare professionals treating cancer goes on, even during this time, but facing even greater challenges. It’s not just the medical staff who have it tough. Try and imagine going through chemotherapy in isolation. I’m struggling to do this, because even with the support of my family and friends in the room with me, it was brutal, lonely and demoralising.

That’s where the work of charities like CLIC Sargent and Teenage Cancer Trust come in, who are still providing essential support to people like you, or your mum, or your son. Their work goes on.

So does the invaluable work of World Child Cancer, Trekstock and 5KYourWay, alongside other charities. They are really struggling in this period.

For every £10 donated in the next week via our Virgin Money Giving page, starting today, 18th April, I’ll run a mile (I say this with some trepidation!). Even better, why don’t you walk or run that mile with me?  Let’s take this on together and get outside and get fit at the same time! Comment or post your progress and I’ll do the same.

This is absolutely about supporting our national health service, but recognising it, alongside invaluable partners, treats everyone, with every illness.

Let’s do this together!
